STUNNING MEISSEN ROCOCO SET:
MANTLE CLOCK AND
PAIR OF CANDLESTICKS
made c. 1770

Gorgeous floral decorations, consisting of numerous sculptured flowers' blossoms made of porcelain, all of them attached to leafy twigs. The sculptured figurines making music  (= models 167 and 261) as well as the pug dog attached to clock and the figurines decorating candlesticks  (= these are Allegories of Water)  are based on designs once made by Johann Joachim Kaendler. - The porcelain clockface of table clock being in working order has Roman as well as Arabic numerals / the original pendulum and key for winding up the clock's mechanism are preserved. The table clock as well as the candlesticks are based on fire-gilt bronze socles decorated with Rocaille ornaments  /  the clock's case is made of gilt bronze, too.

THIS MEISSEN SET - TABLE CLOCK AND PAIR OF CANDLESTICKS  - IS VERY RARE AS WELL AS OF FINEST MANUFACTURING QUALITY   !

Table / mantel clock with clockcase made of fire gilt bronze, surrounded by scrolls made of bronze, too, depicting wine leaves and grapes attached to scrolled stems. There are sculptured porcelain figurines attached to base - it is a lovely cherub wearing a wreath of wine grapes on head as well as holding wine grapes and a wooden rod decorated with wine leaves, accompanied by dog. It is an ALLEGORY OF FALL / AUTUMN. Mentioned figurines modelled by circle of Johann Joachim Kaendler   (1706 - 1775).

SALAD OIL - VINEGAR SET MADE AS SCULPTURED FIGURINES  (A MALE AND A FEMALE ONE):  A peasant as well as a peasant woman - both clad in rustic Rococo garments - are situated on rocky base, next to them there is a lidded jug / pitcher with spout visible. The figurines are going to open the lid. Each of jugs is decorated with excellent flower paintings as well as with sculptured flowers' blossoms attached to leafy stems covering surface of white porcelain.

A pair of lovely cherubs / cupids are turning to each other in fondly manner. The female cupid has sat down - she holds a flower garland whereas her male companion is seated on ground, putting his right arm on girl's upper body / the boyish cupid seizes a flower garland, too. The figurine group is based on Rocaille socle decorated with some flowers' blossoms. This cherubs' pair of figurines is called 'Flora and Zephyr: In Roman mythology, Flora is a Goddess of Flowers and of The Season of Spring – a symbol for nature and flowers. Flora is married to Zephyr, the Wind God.

'THE THREE CHARITIES'

This Meissen centrepiece is manufactured in most skillful manner, having a stalk with female figurines symbolizing the Three Charities: There is a round reticulated bowl with golden paintings existing / the bowl is attached to an excellent stalk which is decorated with sculptured flowers' blossoms with leaves growing out from ground. - The stalk of centrepiece is embraced by three women who are apparently 'The Three Charites' being well known from Greek Ancient World - these are: Aglaia, Euphrosyne and Thalia, all of them of stunning appearance, being semi-nude (their naked bodies are partially covered with cloths). The female figurines stand on round base decorated with Rocaille ornaments.

'THE FOUR ELEMENTS'
made circa 1860

Clock’s case shaped as Rocaille chest with four lovely sculptured cherubs, depicting the four elements: Water with fish / Fire with a small burning torch / Air with a bird / Earth with dog, ears of corn and a cornucopia filled with fruits. The stunning clockface is framed by a sculptured snake (this is a very particular feature !).

The stalk consists of SCULPTURED PAIR OF FIGURINES - these are:  A lady having sat down, trying to keep a boy's figurine balance, situated on woman's thigh AND a man having sat down, trying to keep a girl's figurine balance, situated on man's thigh. For this reason both candlesticks are matching in PERFECT MANNER, each of them being excellent counterpart to the other.  -  The five-arms-parts can be removed so that we have one-arm candlesticks.

Rococo Coffee Pot, based on round foot / the lidded pot is pear-shaped, it is turquoise shaded, additionally decorated with golden framed paintings depicting farmers situated in landscape. - The coffee pot's handle is consisting of a so-said Mascaron  (= a sculptured female head) / the pot's lid is topped with a Rocaille knob / additionally, it has French silver mountings.

A girl balances a flower's basket on her lap, whereas she is talking to a bird which sits on a tree's branch. A waggish harlequin has crept up behind the girl, seeming to be willing to break in on her.

Venus is a handsome semi-nude as well as long-haired woman's figurine having raised her arms: Her hair is decorated with a garland of flower's blossoms with leaves. The woman is balancing on a base abundantly decorated with Rocaille ornaments as well as with waves (= curling water) of sea. Additionally, a cherub - still floating in air - moves in headfirst manner towards sea.

It is a very handsome young lady bending herself slightly forwards in order to throw a golden ball. - The long-haired girl wears a long white - bright green (pastel shaded) dress, her left arm where a drapery is laid on is crossed behind her back. The figurine is supported by a tree's trunk decorated with leaves visible behind her. The girl is attached to round base.

Additionally, Juno is SYMBOL OF AIR concerning allegoric pictures of The Four Elements. - This Meissen Figurine Group depicts GODDESS JUNO with PEACOCK having taken place on a throne made of clouds, surrounded by three winged cherubs.  - The figurines are attached to base decorated with sculptured flowers and Rocaille ornaments.

The Rococo pattern Neubrandenstein Relief  (= special type of wattling / trelliswork being separated from each other on dishes' edge by dissociating rods, combined with painted flowers, strewn flowers and insects) had been created in 1741 by Kaendler and Eberlein by order of Friedrich August von Brandenstein, masterchef of the Saxon King. - The service for six persons offered here consists of soup plates, dinner plates and dessert plates, additionally of lidded tureen, three serving platters and a sauce boat with saucer.

So-said Spaniel dog, excellently manufactured. Painted brown-white and stunningly modelled (look for example at dogs' hair, please - even these tiny details are amazingly sculptured). The very special peculiarities of this model - the dog's pelts with tail and ears slightly sticking out, further the teeth and tongue - are a quite hard work for the modeller, indeed...

The plate's edged area is decorated with finest golden painted borders and stylized leaves laid on violet ground. The plate's middle area is execellently painted, too: There are concentric round areas existing, these ones decorated with meander patterns and finest golden ornaments, partly laid on lemon-yellow ground. Finally, there are rhombic as well as round areas existing, in which masks and Roman Goddesses  (= The Fates)   are visible.

In ancient mythology, the fates are incarnations of destiny, shown as female figurines: Clotho (spinner), Lachesis (allotter) and Atropos. The fates controlled the mother thread of lifestyle of every mortal from birth to death.
This painting had once been created by Paul Thumann  (1834 - 1908).
