STUNNING MEISSEN ROCOCO SET:
MANTLE CLOCK AND
PAIR OF CANDLESTICKS
made c. 1770

Gorgeous floral decorations, consisting of numerous sculptured flowers' blossoms made of porcelain, all of them attached to leafy twigs. The sculptured figurines making music  (= models 167 and 261) as well as the pug dog attached to clock and the figurines decorating candlesticks  (= these are Allegories of Water)  are based on designs once made by Johann Joachim Kaendler. - The porcelain clockface of table clock being in working order has Roman as well as Arabic numerals / the original pendulum and key for winding up the clock's mechanism are preserved. The table clock as well as the candlesticks are based on fire-gilt bronze socles decorated with Rocaille ornaments  /  the clock's case is made of gilt bronze, too.

THIS MEISSEN SET - TABLE CLOCK AND PAIR OF CANDLESTICKS  - IS VERY RARE AS WELL AS OF FINEST MANUFACTURING QUALITY   !

ROCOCO TABLE MANTLE CLOCK
MADE CIRCA 1745

Table / mantel clock with clockcase made of fire gilt bronze, surrounded by scrolls made of bronze, too, depicting wine leaves and grapes attached to scrolled stems. There are sculptured porcelain figurines attached to base - it is a lovely cherub wearing a wreath of wine grapes on head as well as holding wine grapes and a wooden rod decorated with wine leaves, accompanied by dog. It is an ALLEGORY OF FALL / AUTUMN. Mentioned figurines modelled by circle of Johann Joachim Kaendler   (1706 - 1775).

SALAD OIL - VINEGAR SET MADE AS SCULPTURED FIGURINES  (A MALE AND A FEMALE ONE):  A peasant as well as a peasant woman - both clad in rustic Rococo garments - are situated on rocky base, next to them there is a lidded jug / pitcher with spout visible. The figurines are going to open the lid. Each of jugs is decorated with excellent flower paintings as well as with sculptured flowers' blossoms attached to leafy stems covering surface of white porcelain.

A pair of lovely cherubs / cupids are turning to each other in fondly manner. The female cupid has sat down - she holds a flower garland whereas her male companion is seated on ground, putting his right arm on girl's upper body / the boyish cupid seizes a flower garland, too. The figurine group is based on Rocaille socle decorated with some flowers' blossoms. This cherubs' pair of figurines is called 'Flora and Zephyr: In Roman mythology, Flora is a Goddess of Flowers and of The Season of Spring – a symbol for nature and flowers. Flora is married to Zephyr, the Wind God.

'THE THREE CHARITIES'

This Meissen centrepiece is manufactured in most skillful manner, having a stalk with female figurines symbolizing the Three Charities: There is a round reticulated bowl with golden paintings existing / the bowl is attached to an excellent stalk which is decorated with sculptured flowers' blossoms with leaves growing out from ground. - The stalk of centrepiece is embraced by three women who are apparently 'The Three Charites' being well known from Greek Ancient World - these are: Aglaia, Euphrosyne and Thalia, all of them of stunning appearance, being semi-nude (their naked bodies are partially covered with cloths). The female figurines stand on round base decorated with Rocaille ornaments.

A noble Rococo Lady standing upright turns herself towards a cherub which tries to hide itself under lady's mantle. An elder woman - being situated next to noble lady - tries to calm her / a naked cherub kneeling before the ladies presents broken eggs to women: THE SCENE DEPICTED HERE IS REFERENCE TO SOME VINTAGE PROVERBS WHICH HAVE SOMETHING TO DO WITH BROKEN EGGS / for example: 'Broken Friendship as well as Broken Eggshells can't be repaired anymore'.
The figurine group is based on oval rocky support edged with golden painted frieze.

THE PRINCESS WAS - TOGETHER WITH HER BROTHER PRINCE LOUIS CHARLES DE BOURBON - CHILD OF LOUIS, DAUPHIN OF FRANCE AS WELL AS DAUGHTER OF HIS WIFE MARIA JOSEPHA, WHO HAD BEEN PRINCESS OF SAXONY BEFORE HER MARRIAGE. SADLY BOTH CHILDREN DIED VERY YOUNG. THE GRANDFATHER - AUGUST III. OF SAXONY - ORDERED THE BOY'S AS WELL AS THE GIRL'S BUST FROM KAENDLER WHO MADE THE MODELS AROUND 1755-61.

Venus is a handsome semi-nude as well as long-haired woman's figurine having raised her arms: Her hair is decorated with a garland of flower's blossoms with leaves. The woman is balancing on a base abundantly decorated with Rocaille ornaments as well as with waves (= curling water) of sea. Additionally, a cherub - still floating in air - moves in headfirst manner towards sea.

The semi-nude female figurine - only her legs are covered with a cloth - rests her right foot upon a rocky base, being busy with putting on a sandal. The female figurine (look for example at her proportions or at her handsome features, please) is of finest appearance, it is excellently modelled and the details are stunningly worked. Round base with golden painted edged areas existing: Additionally, surface of base is excellently decorated with frieze, depicting figurines of fish, reeds and trident.

In Roman mythology, Flora is Goddess of Flowers and of the Season of Spring / her association with the spring gave her particular importance at the coming of springtime. Zephyr was the God of the West Wind (= one of the four seasonal Wind-Gods) as well as husband of Flora. The Meissen figurine group presented here shows the walking winged nude God Zephyr accompanied by Flora who has an elfin's wings: Both are embracing each other fondly, the Goddess of Spring puts her head at beloved man's shoulder. - The figurines are attached to flat base edged by golden painting.

PICTURE: A loving couple is visible there, kissing each other passionately - they are situated in interior. Both are dressed in antique fashion - it is a couple of Ancient Times of Greek / Roman period | at cup's reverse side following word in French language is visible: 'Le Raccommodement' which means 'The Conciliation' ... - The cup has golden painted handle of angular type.
